Take a 'dip' on the wild side

DAFT DUNKING
at Amport Trout Fishery

WE ARE OPEN AGAIN FOR SOME WILD SWIMMING.
The lake levels are back to normal after the lovely rain we have been having. The water is again crystal clear and flowing.
WHAT WE DO,
HOW WE DO IT
&
WHY DO WE DO IT
Wild Swimming is all the rage and it's fully understood why - it has amazing effects on your mental health and general well-being.

At Amport Trout Fishery, we are a relaxed group of swimmers and are often called DAFT. Hence the name DAFT DUNKERS. Swimmers (Dunkers) don't really swim but rather dunk or paddle around in the lake.

A lot of people could be put off by wild swimming as there are groups into serious 'length swimming' ie: doing it for exercise. Here we don't do it for exercise - we do it for fun and all the health benefits that go with submerging yourself in icy cold water!
Dunkers paddle around and chat and have a laugh.

The feeling after a little DUNK is AMAZING!

About the Lake
The beautiful lake was 'hand made' as was the site was old watercress beds until it was dug up to make a crystal clear fishing lake. The lake is spring-fed and not fed by the river so there are no impurities in the water. There are steps that have been put in place to allow people easy access into the lake, this also protects the lakeshore. Amport Trout Fishery is the name of the site and lake and it is stocked with rainbow trout that anglers fish to take home to eat.

A group of local ladies, from the village of Amport, started swimming in the lake at the beginning of 2020 and have continued to swim every week. Everyone has noticed the positive effect this has had on their mental health and would like to share this with others who are daft enough to dunk!
